LUCKNOW — A grim wave of tragedies hit the Madiayon locality, leaving families devastated and investigators searching for answers in two separate, unexplained suicide cases involving a young nursing student and an auto-rickshaw driver.
Nursing Student Found Dead in Rented Room
A 19-year-old nursing student, identified as Sejal Verma, died by suicide by hanging herself in her rented accommodation near the Bhitholi crossing in Madiayon. Sejal, a second-year Operation Theatre (OT) Technician student at a private institute, was living in the city with her brother, Rejal, to pursue her higher education. She was a native of Belabojhi village located in the Gola area of Lakhimpur Kheri district. Her father, Sandeep Verma, serves as a clerk at the Gola Sugarcane Committee.
The tragedy unfolded when Sejal was left alone in the apartment after her brother returned to their native village following the conclusion of his examinations. According to her father, the family grew anxious on Friday evening when multiple phone calls to Sejal went unanswered. Sensing something amiss, Sandeep contacted his nephew, who lived close to Sejal’s accommodation, and asked him to check on her. Upon reaching the apartment, the nephew found the door locked from the inside. When the door was subsequently broken open, Sejal’s body was discovered hanging from the ceiling fan with the help of a scarf.
Digital Forensic Investigation Underway
Upon receiving the information, the Madiayon police rushed to the scene alongside a specialized forensic team to gather evidence. Investigating authorities confirmed that no suicide note was recovered from the site. Inspector Shivanand Mishra stated that the deceased student’s family has not leveled any allegations of foul play or harassment against anyone so far.

To determine the underlying cause behind the extreme step, the police have formally seized Sejal’s mobile phone. Investigators are currently conducting a deep digital scan of her call detail records (CDR) and WhatsApp data to uncover any recent triggers or distress. Sejal is survived by her father Sandeep, her mother Kiran, her elder brother Rejal, and a younger brother, Kavyansh.
Auto-Driver Dies in Separate Incident
In a separate incident reported within the jurisdiction of the same police station, a 32-year-old auto-rickshaw driver named Rakesh, a resident of Faizullaganj in Madiayon, also ended his life. According to his brother-in-law, Satyendra, Rakesh returned home on Thursday night in an inebriated state and quietly retreated to his room. A short while later, his wife entered the room only to find him hanging.
Rakesh was immediately rushed to the KGMU Trauma Centre by his relatives. Despite medical intervention, he succumbed during treatment in the early hours of Saturday morning. Rakesh leaves behind his wife and two young children. Inspector Shivanand Mishra confirmed that the exact motive behind Rakesh’s suicide remains unclear, and the family has filed no complaints regarding the incident.
